LEGO creations by: Justin R. "Saber-Scorpion" Stebbins
Most of these hovercars were built solely for use in
my Takeover of Mordark LEGO comic. I didn't put as much work into them as
I usually put into a LEGO custom, but they were quite fun to build.
This is the Helios Zoom 200. This fast, sleek vehicle is not for the light
of purse. The LEGO is made almost entirely out of pieces from LEGO Alpha
Team Arctic sets, which I own all of. I hated the Alpha Team line when it
first came out, but later it became one of the ONLY LEGO lines to still
include yellow minifigs instead of peach. So I bought them... lots of
them. I also just really liked the black and silver suits they wore in the
Arctic sets. They were cool.
I really like the way this hovercar turned out. It's sleek and stylish.
The Zoom-200 includes a fold-out computer for the traveler who needs to
stay at work or keep in touch.
The Zoom-200 can turn on a dime. Don't try this at home unless under the
supervision of a highly-trained pilot/butler like Jeeves here.
The police car began when I ordered the air vents with the cool POLICE
writing on them. I don't know what set they initially came in; I just
ordered them online. The rest of the vehicle was designed entirely around
those vents. I tried to make it cool and innovative. Not sure if I
succeeded. I do like the Bohrok eyes for siren lights though.
In Mordark, only the law can carry guns. Civilians are not allowed to
carry arms. So the cops just love to lord their power all over the place.
Even the hovercars are armed, with two blazer guns on the front and
heat-seeking missile launchers on the back.
As I said, I was trying to be innovative and original in this design, but
I'm not sure if I succeeded. For example, I used this weird railing piece
for the engines. It didn't turn out as well as I had hoped.
The Polyphemus Transport. This was probably the least inspired of the TTOM
hovercars. I knew I needed a big, tough bus with big engines for the
refugees to ride in, and I wanted it to look junky. So I started slopping
this thing together. Since this was the last hovercar I built, I got lazy
near the end...
... as you can see clearly here. The back end is just a terrible mess of
slopes. Well, I certainly achieved my goal of making it look junky. I
think the really long slopes from the Geonosian fighter set keep it from
looking too terrible though. I had to use those, because I really wanted
to get them out of my brown pieces box. They take up too much room.
I stuck the Explorien computer in there so that it would look like I put
at least a little thought into the interior. Actually I didn't. I just
threw some refugees inside and let them rattle around. Haha. Talk about a
bumpy ride.
And last but not least, the Pontius Aztec. I built this so that the
gangsters would have a rough-looking van to fly around in. I also built it
because the character who was to pilot the vehicle, Jonas Truatarius, was
submitted by Joker, a member of my forums. He had a rather popular series
of comics going on my forums for a while called "Mr. T vs. (insert member
name here)", where he would make Mr. T pity some foo and then beat them
up. By the end of all the comics, most of the moderating team of the
forums had been tossed by Mr. T into outer space.
Anyway, I'm getting a bit off topic here. Mr. T drove around in a big
black van that was "helluva fast and helluva tough" (I assume that was
something else from the A-Team show, but I wouldn't know). That's why I
made the Aztec black. Here you can see Joker commanding Ditto to run over
some foo that he pities. The Aztec was built as a tribute to Joker's
comics.
The name "Pontius Aztec" comes from "Pontiac Aztek," one of the ugliest
cars ever designed by a blind man. The only van I could think of that was
even uglier than the Aztek was the Honda Element, and that just isn't as
catchy. So the name of this vehicle is the Pontius Aztec. Here we can see
Thrawn's character, Josef, taking advantage of the roomy trunk.
The engine pods rotate up into flight position. The long things on the
front of the pods serve as supports for when it is in landing position. I
originally intended for them to be guns when it converts to flight mode,
but I decided that wouldn't really make much sense.
Don't forget to read The Takeover of Mordark comics to see all of these
hovercars in action!
